Welcome in Italy

How we check facts

Every price, opening time and free-entry day on this site is read from the official source, recorded with the date, and approved by an editor before it appears.

Where the figures come from

Prices, opening hours, closing days and free-entry days are taken only from the body that sets them: the museum or archaeological park itself, or the Italian Ministry of Culture. We do not take them from resellers, from other guides, or from memory.

What the stamp means

Each figure is stored once, with the address of the official page it was read from and the date it was read. Wherever that figure appears on the site it carries a small mark showing that date. The panel at the top of a guide lists the official sources behind it, and the list at the end of the page links to every one of them.

Because a figure is stored once, a change is made once. When a museum raises a price, the new value appears on every page that quotes it at the same moment.

When something changes

Official pages are re-read regularly. When a value differs from the one on record, the difference is put in front of an editor together with the wording of the official page. Nothing on the site changes until the editor has approved it.

When we are not sure

If a figure has not been verified, the page says “not yet verified” in its place. If official pages contradict one another, we say that too and point to both. We would rather leave a gap than print a guess.

What we cannot promise

Museums change prices and timetables without notice, close rooms for restoration, and shut for strikes. The date on each stamp tells you how recent our reading is. Always confirm on the official website before you travel.
